Job Description

Job Title: Product Development Engineer

Department: Technical

Reports To: Technical Director

Summary:

Participates in R&D/Sales activities for customer and market driven projects.

Focuses on product development utilizing existing and/or new products. Focuses in emulsification and synthesis of products specifically, but not limited to silicone chemistry

Essential Duties and Responsibilities, but not Limited to:

Customer Driven Projects-40%

– Determines project scope based on customer requirements: performance, cost, and timeline.

– Determines project plan based on specifications.

– Develops solutions based on existing and/or new products and processes.

– Prepares project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends; recommends actions.

R&D Driven Projects-50%

– Identifies promising areas of research and technology that address unmet needs that have large potential in coatings, adhesives, sealants, and elastomers (CASE) applications.

– Generates ideas for improved products and processes.

– Synthesis in of polymers specifically silicones.

– Emulsification of different polymers.

– Develops new products and processes.

– Collects scientific and technical information.

– Prepares scientific reports of all products under development and their stage of development.

Technical Support/Sales-10%

– Provides technical support to existing customers and potential new customers via phone, email and/or face-to face meetings.

– Investigates potential areas for new products and processes based on information collected from customers, vendors, and trade shows & associations.

– Coordinates technical/marketing activities with newly developed products.

o Prepares SDS and TDS for new products.

Other Lab Duties and Responsibilities

– Participates in internal technical/sales meetings.

– Submit timely weekly reports/updates on Friday afternoons.

– Submits timely eChempax report on all vendor and customer communication.

– Manages time wisely between lab projects, customers, and vendors.

– Maintains safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.

– Occasional travel to customers, vendors, etc.

Innovation – Meets challenges with resourcefulness. Generates suggestions for improving work. Develops innovative approaches and ideas. Presents ideas and information in a manner that gets others’ attention.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in chemistry, chemical engineering, material science with a minimum eight years of experience.

Master’s degree (M.S) in chemistry, chemical engineering, material science with a minimum 5 years of experience.

PHD degree (PHD) in chemistry, chemical engineering, material science with a minimum 3 years of experience.
