Advanced Polymer, Inc. Introduces New Surface Protectant for Composite Wood Decking

Posted on: October 16, 2009

Advanced Polymer, Inc. (Carlstadt, NJ) has introduced API-221F, a one component, water-based polymer/oligomer dispersion designed to protect the appearance and surface aesthetics of composite wood decking. API-221F will crosslink at ambient temperature to form a topical polymeric film with chemical anchors that have penetrated into the substrate. The resultant clear, durable coating film resists staining from foods, wine, oil, grease and moisture.

While composite decking materials are promoted as low maintenance or no maintenance, one of the most common problems is staining from contact with food, wine, plant materials or automotive grease and oil. The degree of staining varies depending on the exact composition and color of the decking. Some staining can be removed with cleaning, but most leave some residual color. API-221F is designed to protect the decking material to overcome this deficiency.
