Advanced Polymer, Inc. provides a wide range of fluorochemicals, which can be used to create barrier properties from water, oil, and soil in various substrates such as textiles, woven and non-woven, paper, stone, and more. These substrates are used in various applications - industrial or consumer - and require different performance criteria depending on the industry.

Although we have developed a full line of high performance short-chain (C6) products to meet our customer's needs, whether performance, cost, or both, we are still offering long-chain, tried and proven C8 products. API understands that the unique performance level of C8 fluorochemical repellents cannot always be achieved with alternative chemistry; therefore, we anticipate offering C8 products up until the the voluntary phase-out date of December 31, 2015 and possibly beyond.  

Our C8 fluorchemical line of products is distinguished by the "APG" code while the C6 fluorochemical line of products is distinguished by our registered trademark " AdvaPel® ." Both include a great variety of  waterborne, solvent-borne, ambient cured, and high temperature cured products. AP-Silane 98, newest addition to the AP-Silane product line

Advanced Polymer, Inc. provides a wide range of silane coupling agents which can be used as mediators, binding organic materials to inorganic materials. Silanes can also be used as hydrophobing agents for various surfaces. As a result, silanes will improve electrical and mechanical strength properties of materials in wet or dry conditions as well as water resistance to substrates such as stone, glass, plastics etc. Other uses include resins, concrete, sealant primers, paint, adhesives, printing inks and dyeing auxiliaries.

AP-Silane Coupling agents contain various inorganic functional groups such vinyl, amino, chloro, epoxy, mercapto, etc. with methoxy, ethoxy, etc. hydrolyzable groups that react to produce silanols, which form a metal hydroxide or siloxane bond with the inorganic materials. Non-organo-reactive silanes such as the n-propyltrimethoxysilane (AP-Silane 30), methyltrimethoxysilane (AP-Silane 90) and n-Octyltriethoxysilane (AP-Silane 98) will impart unique characteristics such as hydrophobicity and organic compatibility to inorganic surfaces.  See our updated AP-Silane Brochure for more details regarding functionality, chemical structure, application etc.

Our newest addition to the AP-Silane Product Line is AP-Silane 98, which can be used to formulate water repellent products for use in various surfaces including  concrete, stone, metal etc. AP-Silane 98 can be diluted in alcohols such as IPA and ethanol, as well as PDMS and mineral spirits. Advanced Polymer, Inc. launches an updated version of the sample request template on the website. 

The new sample request form will be easier and quicker to use and will also help API's team gather all the information needed in order to process the sample efficiently. All products are listed on a drop down menu and will be added and removed as Advanced Polymer technical team develops new products or discontinues current existing products. Standard shipping size for APFS products is 4 oz, while all other products are supplied at 8 oz. Oversize samples require a FedEx/UPS Shipping Account Number. Fluorinated materilas require special handling and usage practice, therefore, after the request is processed our technical team will contact you shortly.

New Cost Effective Penetrating Sealer 

The Latest Information of API's AdvaPel® Product Line

Advanced Polymer, Inc. launches the newest addition to the penetrating sealer product line. We hope you find the information detailing AdvaPel 740ES beneficial.

AdvaPel 740ES is a water based, solvent free stone penetrating sealer that provides a durable, non-film forming, transparent protective barrier against oil, stain and water on porous hard surfaces such as concrete, brick, natural stone, etc. The product is based on non-C8 chemistry and, as such, is considered to be non-PFOA contributing. It is very cost effective compared to other sealers and is free of any VOC content which makes it suitable for interior and exterior uses. AdvaPel 740ES can be used as a diluted solution containing 25 - 50wt% (2.5 - 5% active content) and may be applied using a brush, roller or mop. Substrate should be allowed to dry at a minimum of 24hours before testing.

Advanced Polymer, Inc. - New Blocked Isocyanate Crosslinnker

API-BI795 is a blocked urethane pre-polymer that can be defined as an isocyanate reaction product, which is stable at room temperature but dissociates to regenerate isocyanate functionality under the influence of heat. Due to its blocked nature, the highly reactive isocyanate groups are temporarily closed with a protective group. This way, the dispersion has a long-term stability and gives the advantage to be used in long term aqueous systems. The blocking agent is released at temperatures between 120°C and 180°C and the resulting isocyanate can react with other active hydrogen-containing compounds to form more thermally stable urethane or urea linkages. 
API-BI795 is used to improve the durability of fluoropolymer's performance in water and oil repellency on fabric. Improvements in wash durability  are visible after few washes of fabric.

The following is an illustration of API-BI795 durability evaluation in conjunction with APG-5206, a waterborne C8 based fluoropolymer emulsion. In a concentrated formula the active content of APG-5206 was kept constant at 20% actives, while the BI-795 was varied from 0 to 4% active content. Bath formula was diluted to 1% actives based on the flouropolymer active ingredient. 

        
         
API-BI795 blocked isocyanate can be added directly to most waterborne formulations with mild agitation. It may also be utilized in coatings for wood, leather, inks, adhesives and other waterborne coatings for metal.

Advanced Polymer, Inc. offers the demo video of APFS-75S, is a short-chain anionic water-based fluorosurfactant dispersion that gives low aqueous surface tension only achievable with fluorosurfactants. APFS-75S offers excellent anti-block, wetting and leveling properties. APFS-75S is VOC-free and APEO-free that can be used in wide variety of applications including architectural coatings, industrial finishes, and wood coatings. The demo video illustrates the anti-block performance of APFS-75S at various levels as an additive.

Advanced Polymer, Inc. has added another innovative fluorinated polymer to the AdvaPel® established product line.  The new product, AdvaPel® 805, provides an excellent protective barrier against oil, water, and stain on various hard surfaces as well as leathers and textiles as a very cost effective solution.

AdvaPel 805 is a solvent-based, fluorinated polymer that is based on a short chain, C-6 chemistry. Its durable and transparent barrier imparts excellent water and oil repellency on textiles such as apparel, carpeting and automotive fabrics. AdvaPel 805 is ideal as a penetrating sealer for hard surfaces including  porous and dense surfaces such as natural stone, tile, concrete, brick and grout. 

Some of the characteristics and benefits that AdvaPel 805 provides include:
Advapel 805 can be used  as a diluted solution containing 5-10% as supplied (1-2% active ingredient) for textile and leather treatment or   13.5-27% as supplied (2.5-5% active ingredient) for hard surfaces. Product may be applied using a saturated brush, roller, or mop, or low pressure garden-type sprayer and dry minimum 24 hours before testing.

Advapel 805 is soluble in most hydrocarbons (e.g. heptane, white spirits, isoparaffins), esters, ketones, and hydrocarbon/alcohol mixtures. See TDS/MSDS for product specific information. Mix well before using.

Advanced Polymer, Inc. - New Silicone-Based Superhydrophobic Coating

APS-232 HCA (High Contact Angle) is a silicone-based, fluorine free, water repellent for fabric, leather, natural stone, grout, paper, wood etc. APS-232 HCA imparts a remarkable degree of super hydrophobicity with a great durability to weathering and outdoor exposure. 

Appropriate solvents for dilution levels include non-polar solvents such as APS-D4, APS-D5 or mineral spirits. APS-232 HCA is ambient temperature cured and depending on the solvent, the water repellent effect will show in approximately 24 - 48 hours. To accelerate the super hydrophobic properties, fabric can be heated up to 150 °C for 3 - 4 minutes. Impregnation of the surface can be done by spraying, brushing or padding.

APS-237 HCA (High Contact Angle) is a dispersion of super-hydrophobic nano-sized particles designed to impart Lotus Leaf Hydrophobicity properties on substrates such as natural stone, grout, wood, stainless steel, painted surfaces, fabrics etc. With measured contact angles averaging above 150°, treated surfaces impart self-cleaning properties from dust and dirt when rinsed with water.

Simply dilute APS-237 HCA in various solvents, including VOC compliant and mineral spirits and apply on desired surfaces using a brush, roller or trigger spray. Depending on the application, the dilution level can be adjusted to reach optimal performance. For porous surfaces such as Saltillo, grout etc. apply two coats wet on wet; non-porous substrates require one coat. Advanced Polymer, Inc. introduces a new C8 based Fluoropolymer Emulsion designed to impart exceptional water, alcohol and oil repellency throughout many launderings and dry cleanings. APG-5206 also provides enhanced soil resistance and release and it is best suited for broad application in the finishing mill, when cured at low to medium temperature. It has been found that APG-5206 works best in various fabrics including Cotton, Cotton Poly, Polyester and Nylon. Dear Friends, Customers and Vendors,

Advanced Polymer, Inc. would like to thank everyone for their concern and understanding the last few days. We are fortunate that none of our employees experienced any major damages, other than the inconvenience of power outages.Although we have redundant communication procedures here in NJ, all failed due to the devastation in the area. The experience of Hurricane Sandy has caused us to learn, be better prepared and hopefully prevent similar situations in the future.

 We are glad to be fully operational with all power, communication and services up and running. Thanks to all our friends, customers and vendors for your concern – all of us at Advanced Polymer, Inc. appreciate it.
